Next-day results are provided for screening mammograms and same-day results are provided for diagnostic mammograms. Other services provided by the Center include minimally invasive biopsies using state of the art techniques like ultrasound guided needle and stereotactic mammotome biopsies. Women receive results within 24 hours. Also, a Breast Health Clinician provides personal education and counseling for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Center was designed with a women’s needs in mind. Special amenities like plush robes and a private waiting area, have been added to promote comfort.
Every
Woman Deserves 3D Mammography
When
a better technology is discovered, we believe everyone should have
access to it.
That’s
why Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s is the first and only hospital system
in southeastern Wisconsin to provide 3D mammography for ALL patients.
The
benefits of 3D mammography are numerous and well established. A study
published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) looked
at 454,850 breast screening examinations and found 3D mammography
detects 41 percent more invasive breast cancer and decreases the rate of
false positives by up to 40 percent. This means cancer is caught earlier
and patients often require less treatment and therefore experience fewer
side-effects - to say nothing of the reduction in stress and anxiety for
women who were forced to undergo unnecessary follow-up exams after a
false positive.
And
while other health systems may charge extra for 3D mammography, if they
offer it at all, our 3D charges are the same as 2D.

Double
Check
When it comes to mammograms, it is important that your radiologist is
confident is confident in the accuracy of your results. We are
proud to be the first facility in the State of Wisconsin to offer
ImageChecker computerized steering technology, a revolutionary way to
assist radiologists in accurately diagnosing breast cancer. Studies show
that the radiologists alone detect 87 percent of the abnormalities shown
on the film. When the ImageChecker is added to the radiologists
expertise, the detection rate of visible cancer rises to 98 percent.
Radiologists read the mammogram, and the ImageChecker rechecks and
highlights suspicious areas to recheck again. It is an important - often
lifesaving- double check that can help radiologists detect tumors
earlier when they are most treatable.
