Getting To The Wisconsin Chiari Center
The Wisconsin Chiari Center is centrally located, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our location is only a few hours' drive from Chicago, Minneapolis and Dubuque, Iowa and is just a twenty-minute drive from Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport. For out-of-town patients, all testing and consultation takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. Your first appointment at The Wisconsin Chiari Center will take place the Tuesday morning of your visit, so it is recommended that you arrive in Milwaukee the Monday evening before your appointment, at the latest. Your visit to The Wisconsin Chiari Center will conclude on the Wednesday afternoon of your visit, so you have the option of returning home either Wednesday night or any time on Thursday.
At The Wisconsin Chiari Center
The Wisconsin Chiari Center is located within the Prospect Medical Commons building of Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital – Milwaukee. Prospect Medical Commons is located at 2311 N. Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee, just north of downtown. Parking is available for patients within Prospect Medical Commons adjacent to The Wisconsin Chiari Center which is located on the second floor. Your visit to The Wisconsin Chiari Center will include 1 ½ days of diagnostic testing. Although the testing is comprehensive, it will allow us to recommend the best possible treatment plan for your specific case.
Prior to your visit, our administrative assistant will email you with an itinerary for your visit along with some forms for you to print and complete. She will be available to assist you with the check-in process and answer any questions you may have. She will be available to assist you throughout your visit.
After you have checked in, you will have various testing which may include; blood work, extensive neurodiagnostic tests and comprehensive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). For more information on this testing, please click here.
Once your testing is completed, you will have a one-on-one consultation with one of our four neurologists. This will be followed by a second consultation with Dr. Dan Heffez, neurosurgeon and medical director of The Wisconsin Chiari Center. During your consultations with our physicians, your test results will be reviewed and a specific course of treatment will be recommended for your particular case.
Treatment for Your Chiari Malformation
Our physicians will recommend either a surgical non-surgical treatment plan. There is also a possibility that further testing and consultation will be necessary.
If a surgical treatment plan is recommended, we will work with you to schedule a date for your surgery.
