Diagnostic and Wellness Services
Our Breast Health Centers are equipped with the latest technology to provide breast imaging and related services. Breast Health Clinicians are available for individual education and support. All breast imaging services are fully accredited by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in accordance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).

High-Risk Breast Clinic
All women who have a mammogram at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s are assessed for their breast cancer risk. A woman who has a 20 percent or greater lifetime chance of developing breast cancer is considered high risk and will be referred to our High-Risk Breast Clinic. Through this clinic, a woman will meet with a genetics counselor to develop an ongoing surveillance plan. If a family history is strong enough to suggest a genetic component, the woman will be given the option of receiving genetic testing.

3D Mammography
This advanced technology is available to all women at all Ascension Columbia St. Mary's breast imaging locations.

Computer Assisted Device (CAD)
This sophisticated computer rechecks each mammogram and highlights suspicious areas to be noted by the radiologist. The CAD marks abnormalities on the mammogram and assists the radiologist in the early detection of breast cancer.

Minimally Invasive Breast Biopsy Procedures
Crucial to the diagnosis of breast cancer, these procedures are less painful than surgery and virtually eliminate scarring so patients can resume daily activities more quickly. The procedures include fine needle, core needle, and mammotome breast biopsies with ultrasound or stereotactic guidance.

Breast MRI
Breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses magnetic fields and radio waves to take an image of the breast. Breast MRI can be used to evaluate dense breast tissue, monitor high-risk patients, complete biopsies, conduct surgical planning, and determine the staging of breast cancer. MRI is painless and non-invasive.
